D. E. Strandness, M.D. Scientific Award for Excellence in Research
Established in 1987, previously known as the Award for Excellence in Scientific Research, this award is presented annually to a technologist member in good standing, or to an individual sponsored by a technologist member in good standing, who is the primary author and presenter of a scientific paper selected for presentation at the Annual Conference. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding scientific research. The five oral scientific abstracts receiving the highest number of points in the Abstracts Subcommittee’s selection process are eligible for this award.
Alex Chao, MD, Young Investigator’s Award
First presented in 2004, this SVU award is named in honor of Dr. Alex Chao, a vascular surgeon who died suddenly in 2003 at the age of 37 of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) acquired from a patient he had treated in Singapore. (Prior to 2004 this award was called the Young Investigator’s Award). This award is presented annually in recognition of outstanding scientific research conducted by a Resident of a vascular surgery program, Fellow or Ph.D. candidate in a related field with an interest in vascular ultrasound, and who is the primary author and presenter of a scientific paper selected for presentation at the SVU Annual Conference.
Excellence in Oral Clinical Presentation Award
The award was established as the Clinical Innovation Award in 1994, discontinued in 1998, and revived in 2005 as the Excellence in Oral Clinical Presentation Award. This award is presented to a member who is the primary author and presenter, or sponsored by a member in good standing, of an oral presentation at the SVU Annual Conference. The five oral clinical abstracts receiving the highest number of points in the Abstracts Subcommittee’s selection process are eligible. Their manuscripts must be received by a date to be decided upon by the Awards Subcommittee Chair.
First-Time Presenters Award
Established in 1994, this award is presented annually to a technologist member in good standing who is the primary author and first time presenter of an oral presentation at the Annual Conference.
Physician Presenter Award
Established in 1996, this award is presented annually to a physician member in good standing who is the primary author and presenter of an oral presentation at the Annual Conference. Its purpose is to promote participation and recognize outstanding physician presenters.
Award for Excellence in a Clinical Case Study Poster Presentation
Established in 1988, this award is presented annually to a SVU member who is the primary author and presenter, or sponsored by a current SVU member, of a clinical case study poster displayed at the Annual Conference.
Student Poster Presentation Award
First presented in 2005, this award is presented to a student who is the primary author and presenter at the SVU Annual Conference of a poster of outstanding research in vascular technology.
Student Oral Presentation Award
First presented in 2005, this award is presented to a student who is the primary author and presenter at the SVU Annual Conference of a paper in vascular technology.
Award for Excellence in a Scientific Poster Presentation
Established in 1988, this award is presented annually to a technologist member in good standing, or to an individual sponsored by a technologist member in good standing, who is the primary author and presenter of a scientific poster displayed at the Annual Conference.
People’s Choice Poster Presentation Award
Established in 2019, this award is presented annually to an SVU member who is the primary author and presenter, or sponsored by a current SVU member, of a case study or scientific poster displayed at the annual conference. This award is selected by a vote of Annual Conference attendees. The poster with the most votes will receive the People’s Choice Award.
